History

This is a photo of my great grandfather, Henry Beaver. I never got to meet him, he passed away several years before I was born, but I know he was a great man. He served in the cavalry during WW1. Sadly, I've heard few stories about him until recently. He bought my Mom her first bicycle and took her to Yellowstone NP when she was younger. I would have loved to meet him...

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly...

Taking yourself and 4 children to the dentist at the same time is a major undertaking. Of course I would rather get it done at one fail swoop than have to go back several times. Today we spent a little over two hours terrorizing the dentist's office. The reports were good, bad and ugly. The good was Elle and Ben had great check-ups! Hoorah for them! The bad was that Peter has two cavities and I have one - we get to make an encore appearence next week. Blech. The ugly - Peter, Noah and I look like we need to visit the orthodontist. The REALLY ugly is that I am not covered for orthodontal care. Noah, thanks to his obsession with sucking his thumb, will probably have to have the most extensive repair, but he has to wait six months for some teeth to grow in all the way. Peter and I will be making our visit next month. Who knows what joys await Robb when he gets to go to the dentist next week!

Parenting Blunder #236

Letting your 5 year old daughter watch 'War of the Worlds'.


This is a big blunder unless of course you don't mind her sleeping in bed with you for the next 5 years.

An afternoon with Robb

I got to go out with Robb this afternoon while he investigated a fire. This is something I have always wanted to do and I wasn't disappointed. It was amazing to watch Robb move through the fire scene and lock on to a cause and origin. I took about 150 photos, but these are some of my favorites. It is frightening how destructive fire is - and this one wasn't as bad as it could have been. Most of the damage was due to heat and not flame.
Smokers beware - a careless moment can be devestating.

Happy? New Year

Well 2007 came in well enough - it was the hours AFTER ringing in the new year that haven't been so 'happy'. I came down with some little stomach bug and spent the day horizontal. I will spare you the nasty details only to say it could have been worse, but sometimes I think 'worse' is better because you get over it quicker. I am still feeling pretty icky...

New Year's Eve was very fun. We had the OBC Semi-Bi-Annual New Year's Celebration at church and those of us who beared the first snowstorm of the season had a great time.
